This cheerful march is best known from the soundtrack for "The Bridge on the River Kwai", a highly significant and award-winning 1957 film depicting British POWs and their experience in a Japanese prison camp. Originally written in 1914 by British Army bandmaster Lieutenant F. J. Ricketts, the film version has a counter-march added in by composer Malcolm Arnold. The film received such critical success that this march is now often mis-credited as the film's title instead!
